A Message from Communications and Community Relations

Bellingham Public Schools (BPS) Assistant Superintendent of Finance Dr. Simone Sangster has accepted a job with Chilliwack School District in Canada as the new secretary treasurer.

Dr. Sangster has been a member of the executive team and with BPS for almost eight years and has been instrumental in bringing more transparency and accountability to our district’s budget and financial systems and planning. During this time, our district has received several accolades for the work of the finance team from the state auditor's office for financial stewardship and Government Finance Officers Association for our comprehensive budget book, which is produced every year.

When Dr. Sangster was at the helm of operations, she supported the transformation of food services, which included hiring our first executive chef, working with the Chef Ann Foundation and opening the Central Kitchen.

“Simone has provided steady leadership during levy and bond elections, including our transportation levy in 2016, which allowed us to replace aging buses and gave us capacity to change our start/end times in 2017,” said Superintendent Greg Baker. “We will miss her, but we wish her all the best in Chilliwack!”
