A message from Roosevelt Principal Aaron Darragh

Dear Roosevelt staff, students and families,

I want to share a little bit more information about how things went at Roosevelt today during our Secure protocol.

We took immediate action based on a report from students at recess who thought they saw a potentially unsafe person on the trail behind the school (off campus). We went into Secure at 10:41 a.m.

We called police who were on site quickly, in addition to staff and members of the district’s safety team who came to Roosevelt to support us.

Police patrolled the area around the school, including the trail, and interviewed students. With officers’ help, we were able to lift the secure protocol just after 11 a.m. They did not find any suspicious persons or activities, and they felt it was safe to resume operations as normal.

As an extra precaution, our remaining recesses today are being held indoors. Again, we’ll be dismissing students normally today for our early dismissal at 12:20 p.m.

I want to express my gratitude to our students and staff for doing a great job following protocols and keeping calm today. I also thank the students who stepped forward to report the suspicious person. I know these messages and protocols can be unsettling. We take so seriously our responsibility to maintain a safe, loving environment for all students. Please let me know if you have any questions.
