Once again, another impressive finish in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Scholastic Cup standings for Bellingham schools!

Sehome High School (2nd), Bellingham High School (6th) and Squalicum High School (10th) were all among the top 10 of the statewide Scholastic Cup standings composed of nearly 70 peer schools in the 2A classification during the 2023-2024 academic year.

That is now three consecutive years with all three schools among the top ten each year.

These teams are some of the many scoring programs from each school. Our high schools combined for eight athletic and/or academic team state champion titles this past academic year.

The Scholastic Cup is the WIAA’s most prestigious annual award, recognizing performance in the classroom as well as on the playing surface.

This year’s Scholastic Cup finish is not a new trend for BPS high schools, with admirable performances over the last decade-plus. Sehome is a 10-time Scholastic Cup champion and Squalicum is a one-time champion. There have been 28 combined top-five finishes among the Mariners (13), Bayhawks (10) and Storm (five) in the award’s history.
