2020 Unified Flyer

DESCRIPTION

Unified sports are a part of Special Olympics.

Unified sports combine Special Olympics athletes with partners to make for a great team experience.

Our BHS Unified Basketball team will practice together and compete against Unified Basketball teams from other high schools.

 

IMPORTANT DATES

Dec 3 – Player and family meeting, 3:30 at  CT (next to athletic office)

Dec 10 – first practice at Options HS gym; one practice per week after school

Jan 15 – first game; total of six regular season games

Feb 27 – Unified Basketball regional tournament

GAME SCHEDULE

 

ATHLETES

According to Special Olympics, athletes must be “identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: intellectual disabilities, cognitive delays as measured by formal assessment, or significant learning or vocational problems due to cognitive delay that require or have required specially designed instruction.”

 

PARTNERS

Partners are teammates to the athletes. To be a partner, you should have experience in basketball, like to work with people of different abilities, and have an interest in being a peer mentor to your teammates.

 

PAPERWORK AND REQUIREMENTS

  1. Have an ASB card.
  2. Get leared through BHS athletic office to compete in athletics. Visit the BHS athletic office for information on paperwork required for clearance.
  3. PARTNERS – Complete the Special Olympics Unified Partner Release.
