SchoolMessenger is a communications service that we use in Bellingham Public Schools to stay in touch with families. This service helps us send announcements, school newsletters and district news via email, phone or text.

Managing Your SchoolMessenger Contact Preferences 

Bellingham Public Schools will help you manage your communication preferences.

 If you are registered in Bellingham Public Schools, email addresses and the primary phone number for each student are pulled into the SchoolMessenger system automatically from Skyward.

To opt-in for text messaging and/or Early AM phone notification (weather closures, etc.), please print this form, fill it out, and return to your school office.

It is possible for families to manage their own preferences if they prefer, please follow the instructions below. Student ID numbers and activation codes are required. Please call 676-6520 for these codes or e-mail  if you need assistance.

SchoolMessenger is used by the district and schools for emergencies, weather-related closures/delays, attendance and general communications such as important school announcements and e-news. SchoolMessenger enhances our ability to communicate regularly with parents and staff in multiple languages using phone calls, e-mail and text messaging. Bellingham Public Schools do not pay for text message charges that may be incurred by the user. Check with your cell phone provider for possible charges. Text messaging in SchoolMessenger is opt-in only.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for SchoolMessenger?
Parents and guardians need to log on to the SchoolMessenger Contact Manager , follow the instructions above, and select how they would like to be contacted (phone, e-mail and text message*). Parents should also review their contact information to ensure it is accurate. See instructions above.  If you do not manage your preferences, you will receive some phone notifications, but only for one primary phone number two email addresses pulled from Skyward.  Text messages will not be included

How do I update my primary number contact information?
Please contact your child's school. It is important that your child's school has up-to-date contact information in order to reach you regarding your child.

What type of messages will I receive from SchoolMessenger?
SchoolMessenger will be used to send everything from snow closure alerts to attendance messages and school news. The district can send emergency messages or general information to the entire district and principals can send information to their school community.

How do I receive e-news or e-mail from school?
Log in to SchoolMessenger to manage your contacts and check E-mail in the General Outreach column.  Enter your e-mail address. Select Early AM or Emergency to receive these types of notifications via e-mail.

Is SchoolMessenger secure?
Your student's information is stored on a secure server and all personal data is sent in an encrypted format. SchoolMessenger has a strict privacy policy and does not sell or distribute your contact information to any third party. Please remember, just like with any application, if you give your password to anyone, including your child, your contact information can be changed and messages regarding attendance, grades and emergencies can be diverted or discontinued.

Can messages be sent in languages other than English?
Yes, SchoolMessenger can send information in 14 languages for phone delivery, and 30 languages for e-mail delivery. Messages will be delivered in the home language that your school has on file for your family.

A recorded message from the school was delivered to my home phone, I said “hello” and no message played. What should I do?
Log on to your SchoolMessenger account to see a list of all messages sent to your home and review the message. SchoolMessenger can work like a mailbox, giving you a place to review messages you may have missed.

How can I find the log on page for SchoolMessenger?
The log on page can be accessed through the district's Web site or from a link on your school's Web site. You should also bookmark this link on your computer:

I have forgotten my password for the SchoolMessenger Contact Manager, what do I do?
Log on to the SchoolMessenger Contact Manager and click the link that says “Forgot your password." Follow the prompts to retrieve your password.
